Egg Trays and Seedling Trays: Agricultural Thermoforming with Longsheng Machines

Agriculture Needs Volume and Cheap Protection
Eggs and seedlings share an economic problem. Both are fragile, both are produced in enormous numbers, and both must be protected at a cost that stays a small fraction of the product's value. Thermoforming answers that equation better than almost any other process: thin walls, high output, and a mold cost that can be amortised across millions of pieces.
Shantou Longsheng Industry Co., Ltd. builds multi-station thermoforming machines in Shantou City, Guangdong Province, and has done so since 1998 from a 30,000 square metre facility.
Egg Packaging Formats
- 6 and 12-egg flip boxes. Hinged clamshells with individual egg domes, formed in one piece so the lid closes over the loaded tray without a separate handling step.
- Quail egg trays. Deeper, smaller cavity arrays sized for the much lower weight and tighter packing of quail eggs.
- Retail egg cartons with flat print panels that accept farm branding labels.
The critical geometry is the dome. Each egg needs clearance at the crown and support at the equator, so a fall or a stacked load transfers force into the tray instead of the shell. That geometry is set by the mold and held by consistent forming pressure.
Nursery and Propagation Trays
- Seedling nursery trays. High-cavity-count trays with drainage at the base and a root-training profile at the cell wall.
- Nursery pots. Individual pots with tapered walls so the root ball releases cleanly at transplanting.
- Seed germination trays. Shallow, lidded trays that hold moisture during germination and stack for transport.
These formats place different demands on the machine than food packaging. Cavity counts run high, cell walls run thin, and drainage holes must be punched cleanly so they do not tear during demoulding. Punching in the forming cycle keeps the cost per tray low.
Material and Seasonality
PS and HIPS are the usual choice for egg packaging, with PET and PP available where greater strength or moisture resistance is needed. Nursery trays commonly use HIPS, PP or PE. PLA and other biodegradable materials are increasingly specified for single-season horticultural items that end up in the soil or compost.
Longsheng machines process PP, PS, HIPS, PVC, PET, PLA, PE and biodegradable materials, and the company supplies precision molds with installation guidance and operator training.
