Pet ownership has moved pet food from a bag on a shelf to a segmented, branded retail category. Wet food in single-serve cups, treat portions, sample packs and display-ready clamshells all need rigid plastic packaging that holds shape, seals cleanly and stacks on a shelf. Material Choice Follows the Feeding Format

Wet food needs heat resistance and a reliable seal, which points to PP. Dry kibble and treats are usually packed in PS, HIPS or PET for clarity and stiffness. Where a brand markets compostable packaging, PLA and other biodegradable materials can be formed on the same machines. Sealing is the constraint that shapes tooling. A flat, wide rim gives the lidding film something to grip; a rim with too much curvature leaks under retort or chilled transport. Longsheng molds are machined so rim flatness stays within tolerance across every cavity.

Why Pet Brands Care About Stacking and Display

Pet products are often sold on crowded shelves and in club stores where multipacks dominate. Cups are designed to nest with a controlled stack pitch so denesting equipment picks one at a time, and clamshells are designed to stand upright with a printable flat panel. Multi-station thermoforming handles this well because forming, punching and stacking are separate stages: a deeper cavity or an added hang-hole is a tooling change, not a new line.
