Main Types of Biodegradable Materials for Jelly Cup Production

Time: 2026-10-09 09:19:04.603

The most widely adopted biodegradable raw materials for food-grade jelly cups are PLA (Polylactic Acid), PBAT and their blends. PLA is derived from renewable plant resources such as corn starch. It features good transparency, which makes it suitable for clear dessert cups to showcase jelly, mousse and pudding. It can be processed on modified plastic thermoforming machines, compatible with the existing jelly cup production workflow. PBAT is often mixed with PLA to improve toughness and flexibility. Pure PLA products tend to be brittle at low temperatures. The PLA+PBAT composite material solves this defect, making biodegradable jelly cups more resistant to cracking during transportation and cold storage.

Besides PLA blends, some manufacturers are developing PHA-based jelly cups. PHA can degrade naturally in marine and soil environments without industrial composting conditions. Still, high raw material costs limit its large-scale mass production for wholesale jelly cup orders.
