Cost remains the biggest barrier. Biodegradable resin prices are noticeably higher than standard PP and PS granules. For large-volume B2B wholesale orders, the price gap increases overall packaging costs.
Performance constraints are another concern. PLA cups have poor heat resistance. They cannot hold hot food and may deform under high-temperature environments. Meanwhile, storage requirements are stricter; long-time storage under high temperature will accelerate material aging.
Degradation conditions matter. Most PLA jelly cups only degrade rapidly in professional industrial compost facilities. They degrade very slowly in ordinary soil or ocean environments, which easily causes consumer misunderstanding.
