Working Principle of Four-Station Thermoforming Machine 

 
A four-station thermoforming machine is a continuous, automatic production equipment mainly used for forming plastic sheets (such as PP, PET, PS, PVC) into plastic containers, trays, cups, boxes and other hollow products.
 
It completes the entire thermoforming process through four sequential working stations, running in a cyclic, synchronous or intermittent manner.
 
 

1. Basic Structure & Four Stations

 
The machine is divided into four independent but coordinated stations:
 
  1. Heating Station
  2. Forming Station
  3. Cutting Station
  4. Unloading / Stacking Station
 
 

2. Working Principle (Step-by-Step)

 

(1) Station 1: Sheet Feeding & Heating

 
  • Plastic sheet is fed continuously or step-by-step into the heating zone.
  • Infrared or ceramic heaters soften the sheet to its thermoforming temperature.
  • The sheet becomes elastic and ready for forming.
 

(2) Station 2: Forming

 
  • The heated soft sheet moves to the forming station.
  • Mould closes, and compressed air (positive pressure) or vacuum (negative pressure) is applied.
  • The sheet is pressed or sucked tightly against the mould surface.
  • Cooling water inside the mould solidifies the shape quickly.
 

(3) Station 3: Punching / Cutting

 
  • The formed product moves to the cutting station.
  • A punching die cuts the product from the skeleton (scrap web).
  • Products are separated from the waste sheet.
 

(4) Station 4: Unloading & Stacking

 
  • Finished products are pushed out, picked up by manipulator or conveyor.
  • Products are counted and stacked automatically.
  • The scrap sheet is rolled or collected for recycling.
