Shipping a Thermoforming Line Overseas: Crating, Sea Freight and Remote Commissioning

The machine that arrives damaged
A thermoforming line is three things at once: a precision machine, a heavy steel frame and a set of fragile molds. Each needs different protection. Plants that lose a month to a bent frame or a rusted guide rail usually lost it in packing, not in shipping. Shantou Longsheng Industry Co., Ltd. has shipped lines to markets across Asia, the Middle East, Africa and South America, and the packing standard has been refined from those shipments.
Packing what actually needs protection
- Frames and bases — bolted to a timber skid, with the load spread over the full footprint rather than four feet
- Molds — crated separately in a wooden case with rust preventive and desiccant; never shipped mounted in the machine
- Guides and screws — coated, wrapped and mechanically locked so they cannot travel during the voyage
- Controls and electronics — removed or isolated, with anti-static wrapping and a moisture barrier
- Sheet stacks and small parts — strapped, labelled by position, so reassembly is by number
Container loading is planned before production. A 40-foot high-cube takes the extruder and former with the auxiliary units nested; a 20-foot is usually enough for a single cup machine plus molds.
Documentation export buyers ask for
- Packing list with weights and dimensions per crate
- Commercial invoice and bill of lading details matched to the contract terms
- Certificate of origin
- Wiring diagram, PLC backup and parameter list, in the language of the buyer where required
- Spare parts list with recommended first-year stock
Remote commissioning that works
Travel is not always possible on schedule. Our standard remote process is: customer shares photos of the installed machine and the electrical cabinet; we verify wiring against the diagram; we connect over a remote session to check inputs, outputs and axis movement; then we walk the operator through a first production run on video. It typically takes two to three sessions and works best when the customer has an electrician on site and a stable internet connection in the workshop.
