Screw Design on the Longsheng SI-PE Sheet Line

Feeding and compression

A grooved feed section grips the pellets and builds a stable feed pressure, which matters because PE is slippery when warm. Compression happens gradually: a short, steep compression zone on PE produces surging and unmelted pellets at the die. A longer metering section then smooths out the pressure pulses that would otherwise appear as thickness bands.

Mixing and melt quality

PE carries colour masterbatch poorly if the mixing section is weak. A barrier screw with a slotted mixing head separates solid from melt and discharges the melt through narrow channels, which improves dispersion. For lines running high masterbatch ratios or recycled content, a static mixer after the screen changer adds another opportunity to homogenise before the die.

Heat and cooling

PE needs more barrel heat than PS and removes heat slowly in the calender. That combination means the cooling rolls, not the screw, often limit line speed. Screw cooling on the feed section helps prevent bridging on large-diameter machines.

What changes downstream

PE sheet is softer, so winding tension must be lower and taper control more generous. Edge trim is also more elastic and needs a sharper slitting arrangement to avoid ragged edges.
