How to Estimate Output on a Longsheng Sheet Extrusion Line

Start from the sheet, not the screw

The most reliable estimate comes from the finished product: output equals sheet width times thickness times line speed times density. A 1,200 mm wide PP sheet at 0.6 mm, running at 20 m/min, works out near 800 kg/h at a density around 0.91. This calculation is verifiable on any line with a stopwatch and a scale, so it should be the reference figure in every quotation discussion.

Then check the screw

Screw capacity scales with diameter squared and screw speed, moderated by channel depth and pitch. Manufacturers publish a specific output per revolution for each screw, and the practical figure is usually 60 to 80 percent of the theoretical drag flow once pressure backflow and leakage are counted. A screw running at its torque limit cannot deliver its nominal output, which is why motor power and gearbox rating belong in the same conversation.

The limits that bind first

  • Cooling capacity: thick sheet and PE are limited by the calender, not the screw
  • Die pressure: narrow dies and high-viscosity resins raise pressure and reduce output
  • Haul-off and winding speed: thin sheet hits the winder limit before the extruder limit
  • Downstream demand: a cup line consuming 300 kg/h does not need a 900 kg/h extruder

A note on quoted numbers

Output quoted without sheet width, thickness and material is not comparable between suppliers. Ask for the conditions, and ask for the specific output per screw revolution.
